This page is mostly family. Check out our friends OLD and NEW.
We have friends and family far and wide so I thought I would have a page to keep them updated on our new digs in Baltimore.

This is just the beginning of what will be a pile of crazy people we call Family.

Mom and Tom just came for a visit and while it was too short, we had a great time.
We were fostering 5 kittens at the time and Tom had so much fun playing with a whole litter plus our baby Stash.

My work is an on going study of creating space. While I do create works of social commentary, I prefer to exist in the abstract. I want the viewer to be engaged either by actively moving around the work or by evoking some emotion thru color and line. After attending Kent State University, I became part of the booming art community in my hometown of Canton, Ohio. I completed my internship at The Canton Museum of Art and became an Out Reach instructor under the Heartland Grant for 8 years. Most of the classes, covering 3 counties, were with kid’s grades k-12 with behavior and learning disorders. I have also been a board member of the Big Sandwich Artists Collective located in Canton. I have participated in many city events as well as shown in several galleries in and around the area including Cleveland, Ohio. I am a recent transplant to Baltimore and am looking forward to similar involvement in the art community. I am the mother of 2 grown sons, grandmother of 2, have a house full of dogs and cats, and a partner studying to be a veterinarian.

Spiders

Halloween 2009

This year I had time to make a few spiders for Halloween.

Day one

Starts out as a a roll of roofing paper and a roll of tape and turns intoo a pile of parts

for 5 spiders. 5 bodies, 10 eyes, 10 pintchers, and 40 legs

Assembling all the parts

Halloween 2009

This year I had the time to decorate and had plenty of candy.

The Spiders were a project. To see them being built click here.

I made and wore this outfit for the Kinic Sculpture Race in Baltimore this summer.

It was the third costume this holiday.

I have no idea what was in Tami's head but she kicked butt as the only spooky DJ on the block !

I left the sunflowers up so I could make them into Ghosts

I had rope tied up so when I gave it a yank, all three would wiggle. It was fun to scare people at the alley.

I hope you all had a great holiday !

Frog Fence

Our neighbors and friends, Beckie and Ransom Cooke ,got married at home this summer and

asked Tami and I to help. One of the projects was to cover the neighbors nasty fence that would be seen behind the main table.

This piece was completed in 1 week starting with the planning stage.

( Beckie LOVES frogs and the whole wedding was a frog theme )
This is based on the water fall pond in their front yard and all the syuff in it as well as
2 dozen little frogs all over the painting.

THe unvailing was just for them that morning.
Beckie just stood and cried.

Friends We Miss

Pat Buckohr Is the leader of Big Sandwich. He loves to play in front of people so we painted
as part of the entertainment. Both his and my paintings sold that night.

I have always been interested in Space. The beauty of the freedom and movement of clouds and stars. I started a series to decorate a room. These are studies and you will see improvement and size grow. So far they are 5X7, 8X10, acrylics on cardboard or canvas board. Check back as they get better.

What is that in the yard ?

Over the years there has been many things spring up in the yard. I don't have any of the pieces left but I now have a huge yard in Maryland to play in so check back now and then.

This is my favorite piece. It is an alien claw that fell out of the sky with a space weapon

It is 8 feet long with 2 wax tallons made from a 3in wide ribbon of steel, chickenwire. plastic bags, paper, glue, and tons of latex paint.

This is a 4 foot cage that was part of another sculpture. I love Halloween so I made the spider.

She is wire and paper and glue. After the holiday she hung on the porch and freaked out a few people.

My front yard in Maryland is begining to take shape. The first piece was vandilized and now there is only a part ot it.

This piece is my celebration of Spring.
It lights up too!

Here is the latest piece. I was playing with wire coat hangers and flashing and this is what happened.

The new body of work has been a different path. Rather than wrapping a 2D image around a 3D shape I am exploring working the 3D image into the 3D shape. I have also changed my palette. I am enjoying the dramatic lighting, use of space, and high contrast. I am sure this will led to a greater challenge.

Being in a collective of artists, this job was passed to me because I work with clay and kids.

Paul Carmichael owns a nursery. In the winter there is not much to do so he started writing songs and developed a program to teach 3rd and 4th graders about plants. "Professor Culpepper's Amazing Garden" appears in elementary schools all over Ohio. Paul received a grant to develop visual aids for his program.

I met with Paul who had a ton of great ideas and so much information. Nice guy

I went home for a week and came up with several ideas. I had sketches of the box with all the specs, materials, and cost but what cinched the deal was the clay demo.

This is what we came up with.

2ft X 4ft X 6in Box with 2 hinged doors. When closed, the front looks like a seed packet of Purple Echnacea,

Native to Ohio. The back has his plant life logo and a map of the USA with growth seasons.

Inside door revels a matching game of plant to seeds and how seeds get dispersed (including bird poop),

The body contains removable seeds and parts of the flower to pass around the class made from Sculpy

Clay reinforced with wire. Each piece attaches to the box to prevent damage in transport.

Rear door has logo and map and serves as a support so when the box is open it is freestanding and provides a

4 X 6 foot visual aide with parts.
